Hospitality with tradition and passion since 1948
The 4-star superior Gartenhotel Theresia and the 4-star Hotel Johann in Saalbach-Hinterglemm are now in their third generation of owner-managers. The Brettermeier family transformed the two hotels into the first hotels in the Salzburg region to offer fully organic cuisine, all day long. This means our hotels are truly pioneers of organic cuisine in the Province of Salzburg.
The Hotel Johann is named after Johann Hasenauer, a farmer in Hinterglemm and the love of Theresia Gensbichler’s life – Theresia is the namesake of our Gartenhotel Theresia. Johann and Theresia had two children but were never married. And even though they lived apart from one another, they were always there to help each other and spent their whole lives making sure their children were happy and healthy. The children grew up at their father’s farmhouse as well as at their mother’s alpine pasture and home. Son Bartholomäus was officially adopted by his father Johann so that the farm could retain the family’s name "Hasenauer" and he could officially succeed his father. Daughter Marianne was born at the alpine pasture home in 1928 and ran Theresia’s guest house and its 45 beds.
Johann and his beloved Theresia died shortly after one another – after a long and fulfilling life. His last wish was to be buried in the same grave, a wonderful end for this incredible, one-of-a-kind love that was unable to be shared in one place during their lifetimes. Both Johann and Theresia were founding members of the Hinterglemm cable cars in the year 1950. Johann Hasenauer offered his construction skills and natural resources in the form of wood for the pillars and Theresia Gensbichler provided 5000 Austrian Schilling, a considerable amount of money for the time.
